Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Raheennamadra

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Raheennamadra, County Limerick: an earthen ringfort beside Ahatemple Stream, still marking the land after centuries of pasture and change. Its bank and ditch may have enclosed homes, herds or prayer, while local story calls it a fairy fort, as if the boundary belonged to more than people. The earth keeps both truths at once: human hands shaped it, and imagination still lives there.
In reclaimed pasture on the S bank of Ahatemple Stream. Enclosure (LI049-116----) lies 150m to SW. Depicted as a circular-shaped platform defined by a scarp on 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map. Visible as a raised rectangular-shaped area (dims. c. 20m N-S; 18m E-W) enclosed by a bank with external fosse on Google Earth orthoimages. Outline of monument clearly visible on oblique aerial photograph (ASIAP 318 17) taken 05/10/2002. See attached oblique aerial photographs and Google Earth orthoimages.
