Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Port is a raised circular area twenty point two metres across, enclosed by a low earthen bank and the remains of a fosse. The field boundary from east to south has deepened that old ditch, while a narrow break at the northwest may still mark the entrance people once used.
Raised circular area (int. diam. 20.2m) enclosed by a low earthen bank and the remains of a fosse which has been deepened and incorporated into the field boundary from E-SE-S. Narrow break in bank at NW may represent original entrance. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
