Poppyhill holds a subcircular rath forty to forty-eight metres across, marking one of Galway's many forgotten human settlements. The earth bank still stands against the sky while a modern silage pit bites into its northwest face, proving that living farms and ancient borders still tangle together. People may have loved, feared or raged inside that small circle before they stopped coming, but the grass and lane have taken their names.
On a low hill in grassland. Subcircular rath (48m E-W; 40.5m N-S), in fair condition, defined by a bank from E to SW and from NW to NE; elsewhere a scarp forms the enclosing element. A silage pit has been built into the outer face of the bank at NW. A laneway borders the monument
from SW to WNW.
