Pollakeel holds a twenty-seven metre earthen chamber where a living stream still borders the northern bank. The southern ditch has filled with soil and memory, but the water remains sharp enough to deny entry to half the world. A break in the northern wall suggests a doorway built for breath rather than carts. People may have stood inside during storms, watching the river obey the fort instead of the fort obeying the river.

Raised circular area (int. diam. 27.7m) enclosed by a low earthen bank with external fosse infilled from S-W-NW. From NW-N-NE fosse is absent where a stream skirts the outer foot of the bank. Break in bank at NNW may represent original entrance. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
