Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Phale Upper

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Phale Upper holds a vanished ringfort buried beneath tillage on a south-facing slope. The land still carries the name Lios Field, preserving the shape of what disappeared beneath the soil. People may have lived there before ploughing erased the boundary, yet no stone or bank remains to mark the exact limit of their world.
In tillage, on S-facing slope below crest of hill. Field known locally as "lios field". No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
