Oorla is called a fairy fort because people believed the fairies lived there, but the earth may have belonged to somebody human long before the story arrived. The circular bank stood beside the Robertstown River until ploughs and carts took it apart, leaving no trace for later eyes to find. What is gone can still be imagined: a small defended place, bright with life, then swallowed by the field.

In tillage, in undulating low-lying area close to estuary of Robertstown River. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m) on 1841 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled. No trace of monument evident when inspected. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
