What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Oldcourt, County Limerick: an oval earthen ringfort, 35m by 25m, with a shallow external fosse and a stone-faced bank on part of its perimeter. It sits fenced off in the north-east corner of a pasture field, now choked with overgrowth that hides the interior completely. The bank stands about a metre inside and nearly two metres outside, best preserved towards the north-west where it joins the field boundary. Whatever life once filled that small enclosed world has vanished into grass and shadow, leaving only the shape of its walls to mark the difference between inside and out.
In pasture, on gently undulating terrain. Site, located in NE corner of field, has been fenced off and is now heavily masked by overgrowth. Oval area (c. 35m N-S; c. 25m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank, with external fosse (Wth 2.4m; D 0.2m) SSE->NW. Bank (int. H 1.05m; ext. H 1.6m), best preserved at NW, is stone-faced externally SSE->WNW where it is incorporated into field boundary system. Interior is completely covered in dense overgrowth.
