Mullaghroe North held a double-ramparted fort roughly forty-five metres wide, its outer bank rising six to eight feet above a deep fosse before men levelled it in 1966. Local memory calls it Lios na Duinne, a name that suggests darkness or depth rather than fairy sparkle, while a possible underground passage on the north side hints the fort may have hidden rooms as well as rooms above. The land has forgotten the shape, but the name and the lost passage keep the place turning in the mind like a door that has no wall left to show.

In pasture, on gentle SW-facing slope. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 45m) on 1842, 1904 and 1938 OS 6-inch maps; external fosse hachured S->NW and NE->SE on 1938 OS 6-inch map. Levelled in 1966 (UCC); no visible surface trace of site. According to local information, 'two rings' surrounded fort. Circular enclosure visible as soilmark of bank with possible entrance to N and remains of second inner bank to E (GSIAP, W400). Recorded by Bowman (1934, 267) as double-ramparted fort (diam. c. 35yd) on D. O' Leary's land with half the circuit of the inner rampart levelled, remaining portion c. 3ft H; intervening fosse (Wth 36ft); outer rampart 6-8ft H and outer fosse 4ft D; entrance to S. Also recorded by Broker (1937, 53) as 'Lios na Duinne'. Possible Man-made underground passage (13423, Part 2) on N side of interior.
