Fairy forts are not forts at all. They are circles of earth and stone where the boundary between worlds grows thin, and people stopped building there because the ground itself resisted. Mounteagle kept one such circle, now vanished under soil and forgetting. What disappeared is not loss. It is the landscape completing its own shape, hiding the place where human tools broke against something older.

Marked on the 1841 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a subcircular enclsoure (max. diam. c. 25m N-S). Reference to a rath in an article about Laois Folklore in Bealoideas (Roe 22, 26, 27).
