What is recorded here

No trace of the Mountcoal ringfort remains on the ground, though it still appears on maps drawn before and after the last human generations walked beside it. The earth forgot the shape of the wall, or the wall gave back its clay to the hill. What is certain is that a circular enclosure stood there, large enough to be seen from a cart road and recorded twice by surveyors. What is missing is the life that filled it: the door, the lights, the reason it was built and the reason it stopped being used.

This circular enclosure lies SE of KE016-056----. It is marked on the 1841-42 and 1914-15 OS maps, and also shows up on the Geological Survey of Ireland's aerial photographs (1974).
