Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Monyglen

Situated on a rise on the SE-facing spine of a small NW-SE drumlin ridge. This rath is depicted on McCrea’s map of County Monaghan (1793) and on subsequent editions of the OS 6-inch map. It is an oval grass and fern-covered area (dims 35m NNW-SSE; 28m ENE-WSW) that slopes down to the S. It is defined by an earthen bank separated by a fosse or berm from an outer earthen bank, which is largely incorporated into a field bank. There is an entrance (Wth at base 1.7m) in the inner bank at SE. Field banks from NNW; ENE; SSE and SW converge on the centre.
