Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Monalia

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

South-facing pasture in Monalia hides a thirty-metre ring, visible only when aerial light strikes the soil. The forgotten ditch still draws its circle beneath the grass, waiting for rain or machinery to reveal the shape of lives that turned this slope into a home.
Situated on a S-facing slope. An aerial photograph (CUCAP: AVC 76) shows the cropmark of an enclosure (diam. c. 30m) defined by a single fosse feature. No archaeological feature is visible at ground level in pasture. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of revision: 6 December 2017

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
