Fairy forts are no longer believed to be fairy forts. They are ringforts, ancient human homes and farms. The fairies moved in later, after the people left and the purpose faded. Monaghanoose keeps that change in its shape: a small circular field, partially buried, still marking the place where people lived before the story about it changed.

Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 23m) enclosed by a low earthen bank and a shallow fosse identifiable from WSW-W-N. Break in bank at SE may represent original entrance.
