Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Moig

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Moig, County Limerick: an oval earthen ringfort, 33m by 40m, set on a north-facing hill slope in pasture. Its scarped edge rises 2.15m and broadens to 11m on the better-preserved northeast and southeast, while a shallow external fosse runs southeast to northwest. The curved field boundary kinks around the base of the scarp, as if the land still remembers the shape beneath the grass.
In pasture, on N-facing hill slope. Oval area (33m N-S; 40m E-W) defined by scarped edge, with external fosse (Wth 2m; D 0.55m) SE->NW. Scarp (H 2.15m; Wth 11m), best preserved NE->SE, lowers at W (H 0.4m; Wth 6m). A slightly curved field boundary kinks around base of scarp NW->NE. Interior, under pasture, slopes down gently to E.
