Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Maulicarrane

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Maulicarrane holds a forgotten ringfort hidden beneath rough pasture and rock outcrop on an east-facing slope. Local tradition preserves the shape even though no wall or ditch remains visible. The land may have supported human life before memory faded, yet the earth swallowed the boundary and returned the hill to grass.
In rough pasture broken by rock outcrop, on break in E-facing slope. Local tradition of ringfort. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
