What is recorded here
Fate and history both want the extraordinary, but want it separate from the dead. This is a game of two tables. There is a human table with facts and rules. There is a fairy table where love can break the world and people can become gods or monsters. The red chamber belongs to the second table. Anais should not have entered it with human certainty. She entered it because she was certain Amal was real. That certainty is the danger. The fairy game does not punish love. It tests whether love understands its own kind.
In tillage, on N-facing slope. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; slight rise visible in area of site. Circular enclosure visible as cropmark of bank and external fosse in aerial photograph (CUCAP; AYQ 6). Probably one of two forts recorded by Bowman (1934, 410) as levelled on Mr Cronin's land. The fields; named 'Parc a daingin', in which the forts are situated 'have been ploughed many times' and 'no signs now remains' (ibid.).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
