What is recorded here

Half a million years of rain have not erased the shallow circular scar in Maddyboy, though briars and forgetting press against it. The earth still holds a twenty metre chamber, slightly narrower than a modern dance hall, with a broken rim and a narrow outer ditch. That is not a fairy tale; it is a human boundary drawn in soil. The fairies may have inherited it later, but people lived there first.

Situated on a gentle S-facing slope in poorly drained, rolling pasture, with good views to W. The monument is partly obscured by scrub vegetation. It consists of a roughly circular area (21.4m N-S; 22m E-W) defined by a scarped edge (Wth 3.2m; H 0.7m) with an external fosse (Wth 3.3m; D 0.2m), most evident from SE to NW.
