Fairy fort in Lyre, County Cork: a roughly circular earthen ring, 47 metres north-south and 52 metres east-west, set on a west-facing slope with a fine view across a stream valley to the south-west. Its bank stands about 1.5 metres high where preserved, drops to 0.4 metres on the south-west and west, and is missing to the north-west; a western scarp rises 1.8 metres, traces of a fosse remain on several sides, and a 2.5-metre gap opens to the east with stone facing to the south. The interior was raised to level the slope, so the ring reads less like a broken hole than like a made place: a small stronghold, camp, boundary or ritual mark where people shaped land into a room under the sky.

Roughly circular area (47m N-S; 52m E-W) defined by earthen bank (H 1.5m), low to SW and W (H 0.4m), missing to NW; scarp to W (H 1.8m), damaged to SW; traces of fosse to WNW, S, N and perhaps E. Narrow gap in bank to NNW, probably recent; gap (Wth 2.5m) to E, stone faced to S. Interior raised to compensate for slope.
