Fairy fort in Lurganboy, County Monaghan, is a circular earthen ringfort on a hill summit, with two smaller raths on lower spurs half a kilometre away. Its bank stands nearly four metres high in places, encloses a grassy floor nearly fifty metres across, and keeps an eastern gap wide enough for carts or people. It appeared on McCrea’s map in 1793 and remained visible on later surveys, suggesting it was never forgotten, only renamed.

Located at the summit of a hill that has a lower spur to the SW with the rath (MO017-058----) at its tip c. 500m distant and a lower spur to the E that has the rath (MO017-060----) at its tip c. 400m distant. This rath is depicted as an earthwork on McCrea’s map of County Monaghan (1793) and on the 1834 and 1907 editions of the OS 6-inch map. It is a circular grass and rush-covered area (diam. 49m WNW-ESE; 46m NNE-SSW) defined by an earthen bank (Wth c. 5m; int. H 0.7-c. 1.4m; ext. H 1.8m at E to c. 4m W-N) and hedge that is flush with the interior at NE and SW. The bank is surrounded by an outer fosse (Wth of base c. 2m; ext. D 1.4-2m) that has been filled in NE-SE. The entrance (Wth of base 4.8m) is at ESE, and the fosse is surrounded by a field bank and road SE-SW and a farm lane SW-NW.
