Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lissahane

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No trace remains of the Lissahane fairy fort, yet it resisted forgetting long enough to appear on both the 1841-42 and 1914-15 OS maps. That is not nothing. A circle drawn twice, remembered across seventy years, suggests people still pointed to it, still named it, still believed the ground had a shape worth keeping. Maybe they did. Maybe the field swallowed the wall but never the warning.
Situated NE of KE016-046----, this circular enclosure is also marked on the 1841-42 and 1914-15 OS maps. No surface trace survives today. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 644. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013
