Fairy fort in Lismagiril, County Cavan: a raised circular area, about twenty-six metres across, enclosed by a low earthen bank and faint trace of a fosse, its entrance no longer recognisable. Called a rath in official use and a fairy fort in local speech, it belongs to the old ringfort tradition of small defended or domestic settlements in Cavan. The levelled northern and eastern bank suggests reuse or erosion rather than deliberate design, and the lost entrance reminds us that much of its life has faded from the earth.
