Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lisgordan

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mortals may have lived there before the fairies took the fort, but the fairies still own it. They tolerate people watching from a distance, yet they strike back when someone enters their chamber or touches their belongings. The fort is not a ruined human home; it is a active fairy residence where the boundary between worlds remains thin.
In pasture, at break in E-facing slope. Roughly circular area (30m N-S; 31m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank ESE->ENE and by field boundary incorporating bank ENE->ESE, with external fosse (D 0.65m; Wth 2m) SSE->NE. Bank is covered with dense overgrowth but clearest SW->N (int. H 0.45m; ext. H 1.1m). Eroded break in bank at NE. Interior, particularly S half, is covered with briars and nettles, slopes down to E. Field boundary skirts fosse SSE->SW. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
