Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Liscullane

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not for us. They belong to the hidden people who still own the land beneath human skin. This is one of theirs, marked by a broken ring and a field that refuses to be fully known. We may walk past it, but we do not understand it. That much is clear.
In pasture, on N-facing slope. Circular area (28.5m NE-SW) defined by earthen bank (max. H 2.2m) S->ENE. Interior raised on N side to compensate for hillslope. According to local information bank ENE->S levelled c. 1979. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
