Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lisboduff

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Lisboduff holds a vast earthen ring where twelve massive boulders still stand like forgotten sentinels. The dense vegetation hides most of them, but two remain visible near a modern break in the bank. They watch the grass sway and wait for human feet to return.
Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 39m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and a wide fosse. Two massive upright boulders, of which there are apparently another ten (local information) within the rath, lie just W of a modern break in the bank. However, dense growth of vegetation precluded examination of additional uprights. Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
