What is recorded here

No gate is visible anywhere on the earthworks, which means entry required climbing the banks or jumping the ditch. The fort is a closed oval, about forty metres across, with an inner ridge, a broad hollow, and an outer ridge forming a complete loop. People may have lived inside that unbroken circle, facing outward with no obvious front door. The shape still suggests a household that kept its own boundary and did not invite strangers past it.

An oval-shaped area (dim. c. 40m E-W) defined by an inner bank (Wth c. 4m, int. H c. 1.1m), intervening fosse (Wth c. 8m) except at SW and outer bank (Wth c. 3.3m, int. H c. 1.1m, ext. H c. 0.5m) from W-N. No evidence of original entrance. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P.
