Lisduff in Lackaboy is a black ringfort, not a fairy tale, though the local name suggests mischief. Its seven-metre bank rises two and a half metres above the sloping pasture, enclosing a broad interior where shadows still gather at dusk. The southern entrance stands six metres wide, large enough for carts, livestock or running children. The ditch cuts two metres across the land, marking the boundary between the fort and the ordinary field. People may have lived there, feared there or simply passed beside it. The earth remembers the shape even when the names have blurred.

Internal diameter 37m N-S, 39m E-W Lisduff/Lios Dubh (black ringfort). This fort is situated SW of KE005-034---- in slightly sloping pastureland. This sub-circular univallate rath is enclosed by a well-defined bank 7m in width at the base. The external height of the bank rises to a maximum of 2.8m, and 1.8m above the interior. The enclosing fosse is 2.2m in width and .8m below the height of the surrounding land. The entrance lies to the S and measures 6.4m in width. The interior is at a slightly higher level than the surrounding land and is gently sloping S. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle.
