Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Knockreagh (clanmaurice By., Killfeighny Par.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Knockreagh held a large circular fort on the Kerry landscape before the land took it back. The earth has erased the visible wall, but the shape still belongs to the field where people once drew a line between inside and outside. What they kept safe within that line has gone quiet, leaving behind a hollow place that remembers the weight of being lived in.
This large circular enclosure is marked on the 1841-42 OS map and lies one field NE of KE016-050----. No surface trace survives today. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 637. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
