What is recorded here

Knocknashannagh held a thirty-metre circular fort on Pat Murphy's land until men levelled it around 1890. The earthy bank and shallow ditch vanished into the field boundary, leaving only a cup-marked stone and a second ring nearby to witness the change.

In pasture, towards top of SE-facing slope. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure on 1842 OS 6-inch map; as hachured roughly circular raised area on 1904 and 1938 OS 6-inch maps. Circular area (30m N-S) defined by low scarp to S, W and N. Earthen bank to E (int. H 1.3m; ext. H 1.5m) incorporated into field boundary system, with shallow external fosse (D 0.2m). Broker (1937, 52) recorded fort on Pat Murphy's land which was 'levelled about 1890'. Also recorded by Bowman (1934, 260) as levelled fort with diam. c. 28yd. Cup-marked stone (CO029-06502-) at S side of interior. Second ringfort (CO029-06503-) in adjoining field c. 20m to E.
