What is recorded here

Knockeanagh held a circular earthen fort in the southeast corner of a pastoral field, visible on maps from 1842 and aerial photographs from 1949 before disappearing entirely from the living land. The earth swallowed the ridge, boundary and memory of the fort, leaving only a vague shadow in archived images. What was built there has been erased so completely that even its shape must be believed through distant records rather than touched or walked.

Marked as a circular enclosure on the 1842 and OS maps, this site is situated in the SE corner of a pastoral field. No surface trace of it remains today but it does show up on the Air Corps aerial photographs (1949). The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle.
