What is recorded here

Knockburrane held a sub-circular earthen ringfort that vanished before the twentieth century, erased by fields and forgotten by time. The 1841 map caught its shadow, but the 1914 map showed only empty ground. What lived there, who walked its rim, and why it disappeared are questions the soil stopped answering.

This sub-circular enclosure appears on the 1841-42 OS map, where it has been cut on its S to W side by a fieldbank running NW-SE. It does not appear on the 1914-15 edition map and no trace survives today. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle.
