Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Kinduff

Situated on the E summit of an E-W drumlin ridge. This rath is depicted on McCrea’s Map of County Monaghan (1793) and on the 1834 and 1907 editions of the OS 6-inch map. It is a circular grass and scrub-covered area (diam. 35m N-S; 34.5m E-W) defined by an earthen bank that is largely reduced to a scarp (at E: H 1.25m; at SW: Wth 3m; H 1.8m) and hedge with traces of an outer fosse that is completely missing SE-SW where there are farm buildings. The original entrance is not identified. Archaeological testing (08E0219) immediately to the S produced no related material (Tierney 2011).
