Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Killyconnan

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mortals have never been seen to leave Killyconnan. The fort stands complete, its entrance erased, its moat full of rainwater, and its field unmarked by human tools. It belongs to the fairies, who build without witness and abandon nothing. To walk its bank is to enter their world, where clarity ends and story begins.
Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 38m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and a deep, partly waterlogged fosse. Original entrance not recognisable. Densely overgrown with vegetation. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
