Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Kildarra

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Kildarra is a hidden fortress because nobody can find it. A man named Driscoll claimed the fort stood there in 1942, yet the owner who lived beside the field could not picture it at all. The earth swallowed the wall, the gate and every room without leaving a scar. Driscoll wrote the claim in a book and left the coordinate blank, handing the mystery back to the townland instead of solving it.
In 1942 a ringfort was recorded in 'Driscoll's Kildarra' (ITA). The present landowner had no knowledge of a rath on the land. As the precise location of this rath is unknown, it remains unlocated within the townland. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
