Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Kilcoosy

Mortons and others still call it a fairy fort, but the measurements describe a human ringfort: a circular enclosure twenty-six metres wide on a drumlin, with an earth and stone bank two and a half metres thick. The top of the bank rises half a metre to a metre above the outside ground, while the inside remains only twenty centimetres higher, suggesting a shallow tray more than a tall wall. No entrance or ditch is clear now, so the fort has lost its front door and half its shape. It may have been a farmstead, a refuge or a boundary marker before becoming a fairy place in local memory.
