Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Kilbreedy (coshma By., Rockhill Ed)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Kilbreedy holds a true ringfort, not a fairy tale. Earth scarped twelve feet high, a narrow ditch outside, and a gap facing southeast where someone entered or left. Cattle graze beside it now, unaware they walk around a house built by human hands. The fence skirts the south edge like a border drawn twice, once by people and once by forgetting.
In pasture. Circular area (29.8m E-W) defined by scarped edge (H 1.2m) with external fosse (D 0.6m). Gap across scarp to SSE. E-W field fence skirts S side of enclosure. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
