Fairy fort in Gurteenroe, County Cork, is a roughly circular earthen ringfort with a possible entrance to the southeast, a raised interior on the northeast side, and a man-made underground passage. People may have lived there, hidden there, or been told to leave the circles alone because the fairies still walk them at night. The bank is low now, but the ditch, scarp and hidden passage suggest a place made sharp by purpose.

Roughly circular area (27.8m N-S; 30.7m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (H 1.1m) SSE->NW, with external fosse (D 2.5m); scarp NW->SSE (H 3.7m). Possible entrance to SE (Wth 3m). Interior raised on NE side to compensate for hill slope; Man-made underground passage (CO105-03502-). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
