What is recorded here

Half-hidden in ferns on a SW-facing slope beneath Slieve Anierin, the Greaghnaguillaun ringfort stands twenty-six metres across, its earthen bank still proud at the east end though reduced to a shallow scarp elsewhere. A broad external fosse cuts NE-SW beside it, and Lough Allen glimmers a kilometre to the west. People may have lived here, loved here, argued over doorways now lost; the earth has kept the circle while forgetting the entrance.

Located on a SW-facing slope at the foothills of Slieve Anierin and overlooking Lough Allen which is c. 1km to the W. This is a scrub and fern-covered circular area (diam. 26m) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (at E: Wth 5.5m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 1.5m) and external fosse (Wth of top 7-7.3; Wth of base 3.5-4m; D 0.5m) NE-SW, but the bank is reduced to a scarp (H 1.2m) elsewhere. The original entrance is not identified.
