Fairy fort in Gortnacarriga, County Kerry: a broken earthen ring, sixty metres across, set in pasture above a Glanooragh tributary. Its gaps and shallow heights suggest occupancy, neglect or transformation rather than a single completed purpose. The field lines radiating from it imply the ring still organises the land, even when human memory thins.

In pasture, on a plateau, c. 130m S of a tributary of the Glanooragh River. A circular area (c. 60m E-W; c. 56m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3.1m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 1.3m) which is lightly covered with overgrowth. Numerous gaps occur along the bank. The level interior is slightly raised. There is a possible entrance at NNW. Field boundaries (on an E-W axis) radiate from the bank externally at ENE and SE. A drainage ditch, which externally skirts the bank E-W, cuts into the base of the bank. This is probably the rath referred to in the 1840s as being in the N end of Gortnacarriga (OSNB, Aghadoe, no. 1, 28).
