What is recorded here

An oval earthwork, about 28m long and 20m wide, lies hidden in the woodland beside the Glenlary River. Mapped as a defined enclosure in 1840 and 1897, it has since surrendered its edges to trees and forgotten use. The fairies kept the fort, or so the name claims, but the shape and position suggest human hands built it for residence or defence before the forest closed over the memory.

In woodland on E bank of a tributary of Glenlary River, that lies 100m to E. Earthwork (LI049-094---) lies 350m to SE. Depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map as an oval-shaped enclosure. Shown on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as an oval-shaped area (dims. c. 28m N-S; 20m E-W) defined by a scarp from SW-N-E and field boundary from E-SW.
