Cliff-edge fort in Ballinvreena (coshlea By., Glenbrohane Ed)

In pasture, immediately W Glounderrig stream that forms townland boundary with Glenlary. An earthwork (LI048-044----) lies 14m to the E. Depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map as a circular shaped area enclosed by a bank. Shown as a cliff-edge fort on the 1897 OSi 25-inch map where it is depicted as a sub-circular shaped area (dims. c. 18m N-S; 20m E-W) enclosed by two banks with intervening fosse from SE-S-W-NW and N-NE, entrance gap at NNW (Wth. int. bank 4.5m; Wth. ext. bank 8m), defined at E by scarp of Glounderrig ravine. In 1840 the Ordnance Survey described this monument as one of ‘three forts, one near the W boundary’ (OSNB Abbeyfeale to Bruree, 190).
