Fairy forts are not fantasy, they are excluded from the human story because people stopped believing they could be excluded. The chamber is a ringfort in County Cork, Ireland. It appears on the 1842 map as a circular enclosure about twenty metres across, then disappeared under pasture and forgetting. The chamber is not a chamber of wonders, it is a chamber of contrast. A small ring on a west-facing slope, recorded once and lost again, is harder to dismiss than a palace invented for admiration.
