What is recorded here
No visible entrance, yet a narrow gap marks the east side. The fort is a 38.4m earthen ring on a NE-facing slope above Glen River, with a shallow outer ditch and a lime kiln worked into its western edge. It appeared on maps in 1842, 1904 and 1937, and Bowman measured a double-ramparted fort in 1934. The shape is still there, reduced but unbroken, watching the valley like a forgotten room with no door.
In pasture, on NE-facing slope, overlooking valley of Glen River. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure on 1842, 1904 and 1937 OS 6-inch maps. Circular area (38.4m N-S) defined by earthen bank (max. int. H 1.7m; ext. H 0.8m) SE->W, with external fosse (D 1m). Levelled bank and external fosse visible as vegetation mark W->N. Lime kiln (CO040-145---) built into outer face of fosse to W. Upstanding circular enclosure, with entrance to E, visible in aerial photograph (GSIAP, W390). Recorded by Bowman (1934, 242) as double-ramparted fort (diam. 34yd) in P. Twomey's, with outer rampart c. 4ft H, fosse (Wth 12ft) and inner rampart c. 6ft from base of fosse.
