Half a kilometre of forgotten road leads to a buried chamber beneath the grass. The chamber is not a mistake. It is a room built under a ring, and the ring is a fort old enough to have been young when written history began. The fort stands in open pasture, unmarked and unafraid, its bank still holding the shape of the hands that threw it. What those hands hid beneath the ground, and why they hid it there, has gone quiet. But the chamber remains, waiting for someone curious enough to stop assuming the ground is empty.

In pasture, on gentle S-facing slope. Circular area (45.5m N-S; 43.5m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 1.4m; ext. H 1.65m); external fosse (D 0.15m) NNE->SE. Bank stone-faced internally, partially hidden due to slippage and overgrowth. Entrance (Wth 3m) to SSE; modern gap (Wth 2m) in bank to NNE. Fosse survives as slight slope down to base of bank. Interior slopes down very gently to S; Man-made underground passage (CO041-11802-) in N quadrant; low ridge (L 26m N-S; Wth 5m E-W) extends from c. 10m S of N bank through centre towards entrance to SSE.
