What is recorded here

Glanballyma held a broad oval fort on a sunny slope, large enough for families and fierce enough to keep strangers out. Children may have chased balls past its bank while adults debated whether the hidden cave swallowed light or returned it changed. The earth has since smoothed the edge, yet the shape still resists forgetting because lived places do not vanish quietly.

In pasture, on a S-facing slope. Depicted on the OS 25-inch map (1892) map as an oval circular area (c. 34m N-S; 28m E-W) enclosed by a bank WSW-ESE and indicated by a broken curved line ESE-WSW. The interior is cut by a field boundary on an E-W axis just S of centre with a possible mound and a linear feature depicted in the S half. On the 1st ed. (1841) OS 6-inch map a ‘cave’, suggesting the presence of a Man-made underground passage (KE022-015001-), is depicted within the interior at W. No visible surface traces of the ringfort or Man-made underground passage were evident when surveyed in 1985. Compiled by: Matt Kelleher Date of upload: 28 February 2014
