What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Garland, County Cork. A circular enclosure on a west-facing slope, marked on the 1842 Ordnance Survey map but now levelled into tillage. The field fence still bends around the vanished line, as if respecting a boundary no longer visible.
In tillage, on W-facing slope. Marked as circular enclosure on OS 6-inch map (1842). Levelled; no surface trace; curve in field fence as if to respect line of enclosure.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
