Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Gardenfield

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Four metres of missing bank at the southwest edge reveal the entrance to a forty-one metre circle buried under rough pasture. Cattle have long since flattened the northern ridge, yet the shallow ditch still marks the boundary where human hands shaped the earth. The fort waits patiently beneath the grass, preserving its shape while the living world moves across it.
In level rough pasture. Circular area (diam. 41m) enclosed by an earthen bank (int. H 0.7m; ext. H 0.95m) with external fosse (Wth 1.4m; D 0.15m). Bank has been levelled NNE->SSE. Gap (Wth c. 4m) through bank at SW. Farm trackway runs across E side of site crossing line of bank at NE and SE. Interior level and under pasture.
