Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Furzypark (dunkellin By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible surface trace survives in the level pastureland, yet a man-made underground passage still lies within the interior. The forgotten earthen ring may have swallowed light, memory or life itself. What is buried there is not dead, only waiting for someone foolish enough to stop asking permission.
In level pastureland. Classified by McCaffrey (1952, 283, no. 9a) as a circular ‘Earthen fort’ (diam. c. 84.8m ext.) defined by a bank and external fosse; the latter was evident only around W half of the monument. No visible surface trace survives. A Man-made underground passage (GA114-073001-) lay within the interior. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 18 December 2017

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
