What is recorded here

Half a century of ploughing and drainage has swallowed the fort, leaving only a shallow circular dip twenty-eight metres across on a south-west facing slope in Dunmahon. What remains is a ghost of a boundary, a faint suggestion of the ring that once held life, now reduced to a slight rise in the pasture where the field fence cuts through its southern edge. The earth has taken back what it gave, erasing the shape but not the memory of enclosure.

In pasture, on break in SSW-facing slope. Depicted as hachured nearly circular enclosure on 1842 OS 6-inch map; bank hachured NW->SE and remainder incorporated into field boundary system on 1906 and 1934 OS 6-inch maps. Levelled; slightly raised circular area (28m E-W) defined by shallow depression to W, N and E. Field boundary to S may incorporate remains of bank; deep drain dug along S side of fence.
