Fairy fort in Dunmadigan, County Monaghan: a 36m earthen ring on a south-east slope, its bank partly swallowed by a field edge. People may have lived inside, kept stock, or marked ownership of good grass and stone-free soil. The gaps and buried entrance leave room for imagination, but the shape is still a made circle, not a casual heap.

Located on a SE-facing slope. This is a circular grass and rush-covered area (diam. 36m E-W; 34m N-S) that slopes down to the SE, which is defined by an overgrown earthen bank best preserved SW-NW (int. H c. 1m) where it is incorporated into a field bank. There is an outer fosse, which has probably been re-cut WSW-N. There are many gaps in the bank but the original entrance is not identified. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
