What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Dundragon, County Cavan: a raised circular area about 33m across, enclosed by a bank and fosse except where the north-east opens out. People may have entered at the south-west or north-east, and lived inside the ring while the ditch kept strangers back. The missing section does not read like failure; it reads like invitation, as if the fort wanted to be seen coming in.
Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 33m) enclosed by a bank and a fosse which is absent from N-SE. Original entrance may have been at SW or NE.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
